Can we use SQL Server 2005 Standard edition x64 for Storing Share Point databases?

  • Hi,

We are planning to install SQL Server 2005 x64 for Storing share point databases in a production environment. Now we are NOT sure which edition to choose? Enterprise or Standard?

Does SQL Server 2005 Standard edition x64 is suffice for Shaepoint application? Because there is a lot of difference in cost between Enterprise and Standard. All most Cost of EE = 3* Standard.

So please advice me which edition is the Best suits for Share point application? Is there any items that we can not perform in SQL Server 2005 Standard edition, conidering Share point application?

  • We are doing this at my employer. We have share point databases from our production environment running on SQL Server 2005 SP3 CU4 Standard (64-bit). Our main server has 16 cores running 24GB of ram and is running on Windows 2008 standard. We have had no issues with this this configuration or setup.
