RAM Usage of 32-bit SQL Server on 64-bit Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

  • Hi,

We are using SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 32-bit on Windows Server 2003 (x64) 64 bit Operating System.

    Server has 10 GB RAM.

What steps do I have to follow in order to use 8GB of memory for sql server?

I modified the max server memory option through sp_configure, but the server does not use more than 3.5 GB of memory.

    Thank you!

  • I don't think you should enable AWE for a 64 bit environment.

and I also I would like to ask was there any memory pressure on your SQL server? Why are you enabling AWE?

  • Keep in mind that I'm using 32 bit version on SQL server 2005, and as I know 32 bit version can't use more than 4 GB of memory without using awe enabled option.
