Reporting Services 2005

  • Not sure if under the right forum only saw SSIS.

We have Reporting services 2005 configured and need to change the CLIENT settings to point to another database.

Is there any thing that is clever on the disconnect from old sql to the new sql that has to be done.

    Cheers

  • Not sure what you're asking here...

Are you talking about moving your current report server database or are you talking about moving the source data of your reports?

If it's the later, it's as simple as changing the shared datasource that your reports use. If all of your reports use the same shared datasource, you only need to change it once and it's done.

  • Thanks - we just created brand new report server database on NEW SQL Server.

Just trying to configure the client where the IIS is and point it to this.

Seems like just a connection change.

    Cheers

  • Do you mean you're attempting to get your client PC's to point to your new Reporting Server Website? If so a bit of planning now will pay dividends later on down the road. I'd suggest of DNS entry of perhaps MyReports.mycompany.com being added to your DNS records for your domain. Then point that record to the IP address of your new server. If you ever need to change the IP down the road, you only need to change that DNS entry. Also, this is not server name dependent so you can always change the name or move to a new server name without needing to change all of your client PC shortcuts and do redirection and whatnot.

But that's a solution for the future, it sounds like you need to change all of thier shortcuts now... You could perhaps use a GPO to publish a new shortcut to your reporting server. Also, you could setup your old IIS instance to automatically forward requests to your old server to the new server with page redirects and such.
