I configured to post a report in PDF file format with windows file share delivery method. The PDF file was created successfully but it had alternate blank pages. Any idea what could be the reason for introducting alternate blank pages?

This is may be because of higher report body width

reducing the layout/page width did not fix the issue. Any other thoughts?

There is no reason for this problem and no valid fixes that works all the time so it is a known issue. The formula is make your page measurements smaller than the actual page. I found the blank page goes away if you make the page measurements bigger but if you have images in your reports that makes it look funny. Microsoft recommends you use interactive height zero check below for more from Microsoft. Ops wrong link sorry about that.

Make sure you are adjusting the "Body" layout size of the report. You may also consider shrinking the table or matrix padding. I've had good luck eliminating blank pages using these two....

If you are using SSRS 2008,
Very important property that can be easily ignored here is: ConsumeContainerWhitespace property of the Report. This is set to False by default, So the whitespace is not ignored by the renderer and is repeated on next page. Setting this to True solved all my Extra Blank Page problems in SSRS 2008.
Cheers.
