You can't install the server components of Enterprise edition on a non-server OS. Basically, to install the server components of SQL Enterprise edition, you need Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008.
If you're working on a dev machine (non-server OS), install developer edition. The server components of developer edition can be installed on any OS. Alss, bear in mind that if you install Enterprise, it has to be licensed and it's not cheap. Developer however is.

Thanks Gila .Can I have a free download of Developer Edition.

No. It's $50. Buy it from Amazon if you don't have an MSDN subscription

Probably a good idea.

Hi,
I installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express from
http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/previous/default.aspx
I have installed that successfully.
But when I start the, I have that dialog box that asks for the Server Name from the drop down box, I gave local, and gave . and also tried giving my computer name.
But to no avail.
What could be my problem

Management Studio Express is, as the name implies, just Management Studio, ie the client components. If you want SQL Server Express Edition, it's a separate download.
It's on the same page that you downloaded management studio from, it's the link right above the one for management Studio Express

SQL Server Management Studio Express,
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is just the Express database engine with no client tools
SQL Server Management Studio Express is just the client tools, no database engine.
