Hi all
I already configured many linked server connections (sql2005 > oracle 10g).
Now I want to know which things of Oracle Clinet I have to install that everything works fine (including transactions 🙂 )?
Till now I installed the whole software, but now I want only the necessary objects....
Any help is appreciated....
Thanks...

I would do a standard Oracle client installation.
Trying to trim the client software looks to me like a attempt to get into troubles.

As far as I remember till Oracle 9i there were Runtime and Administrator preset types of client installation.
For basic SQL Net connection you need Runtime.
For exp/imp, SQLLoader utilities or Management Console you need Administrator.
For OLE DB you have to go to Custom installation and check the Windows Interfaces (or something like that) manually.
Maybe it's the best solution to start with Runtime and add additional components you need running the installation one more time and choosing Custom method.
It seems that from 10g there is Instant type, too. Which is basically smaller version of Runtime, but some sites are not recommending using this type. I have never used it, so if you need smallest footprint maybe you could try.
