Report Manager Security

  • I created a new role assignment for a folder and assigned the Brower role to it.

There is a toggle button (hide details/show details) at the right end of the tool bar.

When "show details" is selected, there appears "delete" and "move" buttons on the toolbar, and checkboxes in the first column for each report item.

I wouldn't think that a user with a Browser only role would have the capability to "delete" or "move".

    Am I missing something?

The Browser role has the following tasks checked:

    1) Manage individual subscriptions

    2) View folders

    3) View models

    4) View reports

    5) View resources

I have a second issue. Don't know if it's related to first.

I have ReportBuilder enabled for the user; however, the user dosen't have a "My Reports" folder showing to save ad hoc reports to. Gave the user the "Publisher" role.

    Thanks.

  • Solved the issue with the "My Reports" folder not appearing.

Forgot to check the "Enable My Reports to support user-owned folders for publishing and running personalized reports" checkbox in site settings.

  • Never mind...feeling really stupid right about now.

The 'delete' and 'move' buttons show, and they are enabled for the user with 'browser' only role. However, when the user actually attempts to delete an item, they get a message stating that they don't have permissions.

  • Don't feel stupid. Those shouldn't even show up if the user is just a Browser. Microsoft should've seen to this. Now the user is going to be curious about what those buttons do and why they don't have rights.

  • You should post that as a potential bug to Microsoft's website. They might get it fixed.
