xp_sendmail works for sql server 2000 but not able to get mails if job fails...We have created operators and on our jobs we put them to get mails if job fails...but that didn't work....
If i just send mail by xp_sendmail than it works.
Now idea what is the problem

Are you referring to SQL server 2000 or SQL server 2005.
If you are using SQL server 2005, I would suggest you to use database mail feature instead which is lot easier. And you could use procedure like
sp_send_dbmail

Did you add a new step for the job with xp_sendmail and the required parameters. i.e when the job fails it would go that step and execute the same.
