install a new SQL Server 2005 ENTERPRISE Edition

  • I am facing problem in installing SQL server 2oo5.The situation is we have Clustered configured sql sever. And already we are running 1 instance of SQL server 2005 STANDARD Edition in this cluster. Now we want to install a new SQL Server 2005 ENTERPRISE Edition Instance in the same cluster.

So can you please make your expert comments that is these 2 different Editon Instances will not face any issue running in same cluster in Our LIVE environment !!

  • Is License cost the reason not to upgrade exsiting to Enterprirse? I have never done this, but this should be easy to QA and would expect a new named Enterprise instance would not conflict with the Standard instance.

  • You need to create a new cluster group first with it's own drive letter(s).

After installing the new instance make sure to limit the max memory settings for both instances to prevent that one instance claims all the memory.

Other than that I see no problems having the two instances next to each other.
