Running SQL 2005 with 8.0 compatibility mode

  • And any suggestions what's the best way to run?

    Thanks a lot.

  • The best way to run is using 2005, but if you have old code that is not supported in 2005 you don't have much choice. I am currently running a system in 8.0 mode and I have not had any issues. It is a 3rd party-product and I am not doing any development on it. My backups are good so I'm not all that concerned.

  • Thank you so much, do you have server running mixed compatibility databases?

  • We have a production server running about 10 (90) Db's with 4 (80)'s and no issues at all wrt incompatibilities

What's this "backup strategy" everyone is on about?

  • There shouldn't be issues with running this mode. Your database functions as though it were a 2000 server, although the structures are different. In the 3 years this has been out, I've not seen much of anything on this.

Can you better define what you're worried about? The server, your application? Something else?
