ODBC Connection fails after a reboot

  • Hi all

I have a program that uses a odbc connection to connect to a sql database.PC1 has the program on that uses the odbc and PC2 has the database on. When i set up the connection it works and my application works fine but say i restart PC1, after the reboot the application gives me a odbc failure.

I then go to administrative tools where i originally set up the connection. I choose to edit my connection. I basically just click next without changing anything. Then everything works fine again until i reboot the PC...............

I hope i someone can help me and that my question is clear

    Thanks

  • I'm not sure about this if it could be your problem specifically but do you have the appropriate privileges to do modifications?

What I mean by that is, upon reboot, some IT policy state that the registry should be replaced with the one from the network for your station to always start with the wanted configuration. Therefore any modifications to the registry can be made but are discarded upon a reboot.

  • Thanks for the reply

I am not sure i understand completely, i am just a beginner in this great it world. How can i check if i have the correct privileges? I now know that for some reason the connection does not reestablish itself to the server after a reboot, if it is because of a security or a privilege setting where and how do i fix it. Thanks for the patience

  • are you an administrator on the system concerned if not contact your server support team they should be able to assist with this and you really as a DBA should be given local admin rights to the server concerned and also to your local computer.

  • thanks once again for the reply

i will check my rights with the network administrators. i am logged on to the pc that i am doing the odbc connection from as a administrator but the pc with the database has a different domain so what i will do is make sure that the user i log on as has all rights

thanks will try it out and get back to you guys

    thanks again
