Backups to Compressed Folder

  • Is there some undocumented max file size for compressed folders on server 2003? We see SQL 2005 backup job fail writing to compressed folder when database is 20GB or so.

  • There is no such limit for compressed folder. The backup might be failing due to no response from the disk for sometime.

  • Thanks for the reply. If it helps anyone, here's the error message:

    The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.

    I know what that sounds like, but when we remove the compression on the folder, the backup works.
