Hi All,
Can u please help me to find solution for question Why We Use ODS ? / What are its Advantage ?
Is it necessary to use ODS as an middle layer between production server (OLTP) and Data Warehouse.
Thanks

Hi,
ODS (Operational Data Store) are sometimes needed if the source database can not be accessed directly. An ODS also allows you to offload reporting to a 'non-production' datasource, therefore reducing potential bottlenecks on your production databases. I am sure there are more reasons but these two are the reasons why we employ ODS.
Hope this helps,

The ODS can also prevent problem related to the data changing while you build your dimensions and fact(s) since the ODS should be static at that time.
ODS also provides a means of filtering or scrubbing data.
