Hi
During the past two years, I have made a real effort to get to know Access.adp - an excellent application. We are currently using SQL Server 2000, but would like to move to SQL Server 2005. I have been looking through postings on the Web to find that adps will not work with SQL Server 2005. They cannot manipulate SQL tables, and will only work as front ends with SQL Server 2005 working in '2000 mode'.
I've been looking through this site for a thread but haven't found much - maybe I've missed something...
What I would like to know is: what is everybody out there currently using .adps intending to do? Especially when there is quite a lot of legacy adp databases.
I have read some developers saying that the move has to be to VS 2005?? Others are moving to the Web??
I would be really interesed to hear what the rest of you are doing.
Many thanks
Paul

I've done several .adp applications pointing at SQL2005. The only problems I have hit is when trying to create/drop/modify objects. If you are just doing selects/inserts/updates to data in existing tables you should be fine.
VS is a really nice tool that should be considered also. I haven't used it other to play arround, but I suspect it will deal with multiple users a lot better.

Thanks, Jason, I much appreciate your reply.
It's good to hear that you aren't experiencing too many problems. However, to add something extra into the mix, the word on the Internet seems to be that Access.adp is pretty much dead in the water. Office 2007 doesn't really provide for Access.adp development, and if fact is likely to sideline it completely in subsequent Office updates.
I'm considering Visual Studio, but know very little about it. You seem to like it, Jason, having played with it - but has anybody changed over, and is able to comment positively or negatively. I'd really like to hear from you if you have.
Thanks, again
Paul
