Print Que File sizes

  • I was wondering if anyone has any tips reducing the size of the print job.... we are using reporting services 2k. When we run a report that is about 10 pages long, 4 columns wide with lines separating each row the print job is about 5 megs. The issue is that some of our printers take a while to start printing due to the size of the job. Ideally we would like to upgrade these printers in the future but for now we have to use them.

    Thanks

  • Only way I've found to reduce the print size is to reduce the information displayed. also if you have a bunch of graphics try compressing and dropping the dpi on them.

Additionally if you're just looking to speed up the print process, you could try playing with the options on the Advanced tab of the print properties for the particular printer. Try setting the Spool print documents so program finished printing faster and set the subsection to "Start printing immediately".

  • One other thing, are these being printed as PDF's or are they being left with the initial format using the RS Print Driver?

Also, have you tried setting the printers to print in draft or with a different PCL or Postscript driver?

  • We are using the RS print activeX to do all our printing, we rarely ever have anyone export to pdf or print directly to a pdf. The printers we are using are all postscript... so it could be the drivers too.
