When you export a report that contains subtotals to excel, is there a way to export it without the subtotals????

not in SSRS tool. you can write your own function where your report is viewed through the report viewer in a web form and it exports just the dataset. another option would be to write another report without the totals.
sometimes, Users keep asking things where they want SSRS to do every single thing for them :-). they can just delete these rows :-).

Not that I would go through the work, but you could make the sub-totals an actual sub report. The excel export will not export the sub report (although it will in RS 2008).
I would explain to the user that does not want the sub totals that they are lazy and should suck it up and press the delete key. If they are your boss you should be given an assistant that can export the report and delete the extra subtotals any time they want.

good point, and i agree :-). i would tell my users + my boss that this will delay the project for quite some time with writing my own export to XL tool with ability to choose or not to choose the totals since some users may want to have it all. see if they like it.

I think there is not way to do that. it exports everything.
