Difference Between SQL Server 2005 Performance Dashboard And Profiler

  • can any one please say me the difference between Performance Dashboard and Profiler...i know dat Peformance Dashboard does not work on Windows 2000 server...are there are functional differences between these two and which one is suggested for diagnosing for SQL server..thx

  • Profiler records events that occur on the server. The events range from SQL queries executed to locks acquired, to logins/logouts, to deprecations, deadlock and a whole lot more.

Performance dashboard is a front end on top of some of the 2005 DMVs.

Which you use depends what you're trying to do.
