I set up sql server 2005 failover cluster, with Windows 2003. As part of testing, we tried shutting down the node that the cluster group was active on but it didn't fail over to the secondary node. We couldn't connect until the active node was started.
How do I start troubleshooting to find out why it didn't work?
We are able to move the cluster group from one node to the other and back successfully.
Also, may or may not be related, should the SQL Server (MSSQL) service be status of started and startup type of automatic on both node servers?
And I'm not sure I understand dependencies fully. What dependencies should I have set?
This is the first cluster I've tried setting up so I really appreciate any help. Thanks!

We figured out our problem. We needed a node disk resource for quorum added. Thanks for the help.
