SQL Server DBA

    Currently we are seeking a talented person to fill the role of Database Administrator within the Information Systems Department at FactSet Research Systems.  The IS department develops and maintains business systems that support all of our employees worldwide.  An ideal candidate for this position has a good mix of technical, analytical, and business skills.

     

    The key areas of responsibility include:

               Database Server Maintenance such as server patches and upgrades

               Database Server Performance Monitoring

               Performance tuning

               Index Tuning

               SQL Query Performance Analysis

               Establish benchmarks to determine overall server and database health and provide assistance and suggestions when benchmarks are not met

               Administering Security

               Database design

               Understanding requirements and working with developers to conceptualize relational data models and physical database design

               Database Maintenance

                           Set up and maintain database maintenance plans

                           Monitor and maintain log shipping and replication

               Disaster Recovery

                           Gain full understanding of enterprise wide architecture

           Work on continual improvement of disaster recovery planning and implement changes as necessary

               Research and implement migration from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005

               Work with everyone in the information systems department to develop a plan that will coordinate with all ongoing development efforts

     

    Required Skills:

               Relational database design and development

               Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database Administration

               Strong T-SQL skills

     

    Familiarity with any of the following technology areas is a plus:

               Microsoft SQL Server 2005

               Microsoft .NET Framework (Application Programming Languages: C#, Visual Basic.Net)

               Web application design and development (HTML, XML, VBScript, Visual Basic, ASP.Net, IIS, PHP, Perl, Apache)

               Reporting development (SQL Server Reporting Services, Crystal Reports)

     

     

    Experience building business-critical information systems is a plus.
