REMOVING SQL SERVER FROM WINDOWS SERVICES LIST IN MMC

  • Hi All,

I installed both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 database engine on my system. I later installed SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and Analysis Services as Named instances. I uninstall all the SQL Server 2000/2005 named and default instances from the control panel but when I tried to reinstall SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, it keep telling me that I need to uninstall the current one on the laptop before I could install the 2000 version. There is no trace of the SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services and other uninstalled Named and default instances in the Control panel but I discovered that they still appear on the list of Services in the MMC.

Could you please, tell me how I can remove all the instances from the services list in MMC? Thanks for your prompt response.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Sahoong.

  • If you are sure that everything is uninstalled, and the only thing that is incorrect is the residual service entries in the Service Control Manager (SCM), then look at the SC command (type SC /? at a command prompt for all the switches and options) to delete the service entry.

  • Thanks for your resposne.

I have uninstalled all but i just failed to know why the installation is still detecting analysis services. i really don't know if its hidden somewhere.

I will try this when I get home because I am still at work right now.

    Once gain, many thanks.
