I'm connecting to a SQL server 2000 (SP4) instance via a domain account that has sysadmin privileges but when I look at the properties for the SQL Server Agent the SQL Service Startup account is greyed out. Also the SQL Server Agent doesn't show as either stopped or started in Enterprise Manager. No problems if I logged on to the server directly.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I have the same problem. Thanks. Patti

If I remember rightly it's down to whether or not you're an adminstrator on the server (as opposed to a member of the SQL sysadmin role).

When you say administrator on the server, do you mean member of local admin group? I know it's been a long time ago so thanks for replying.

Yep, member of the local admin group.
You're right, it was a long time ago and these days I often struggle to remember what I did yesterday:hehe:
