My disk has 45 GB free space and my data file is 20GB. I detached the db and copied mdf and ldf to another drive, then ran a defrag. I then copied the mdf and ldf files back and reattached. The mdf file went from 15 fragemented files to 10 - a little better but not what I wanted. Running the defrag again will not lower the fragmentation. I stopped the SQL Service when I did this.
How can I defrag this mdf file? Is it because I have too little disk space?
Generally speaking, is Diskeeper recommended for SQL Servers? Should it be able to defrag my file in this situation here?
As a side question, should I have to manage fragmentation for a SAN partition, or should the SAN administrators be able to do this from a central location? Or, is it dependant upon the SAN?
Thank you!

Hi,
You can try Diskeeper, you can defrag the drive by keeping the db online. No need to detach the db!!
