Personal Subscription E-mail Address

  • When anyone sets up a subscription in SSRS 2005 the To: field defaults to the individual's network username. This has never been a problem as the admins are usually setting up a subscription for others and they overtype this with the correct e-mail addresses.

However, when a user in the Browser role (with permission to create personal subscriptions) accesses a report and sets up a subscription they are not able to change this field (makes sense that they can't) but the subscription also is useless without a valid e-mail address. Is there a way to default this field to their e-mail address from Active Directory?

  • Hi...

Please let me know...are you asking abt the From field or To field...b'coz To field is mandatory as we need to fill it with the valid e-mail address....

Yes...by default...it takes the User's network name or User's e-mail address which he may have set while entering the SMTP address but I think its for From field...not To field...

If I am getting it wrongly..can you elaborate your issue so that we can find a solution...

    Thanks,

    Niraj

  • The FROM: field is set in configuration. A user cannot affect that.

When setting up a subscription the user can set the TO:, CC: or BCC: fields. As I mentioned, with limited rights and while setting up a personal subscription, the TO: field is pre-populated and not enabled to be changed. In our case anyway, what is showing up in the TO: field is the user's network ID not a valid SMTP address. It allows them to save this subscription but of course it fails when executed as the TO: address is not valid.

As an admin I went in and modified the TO: address for him but then he decided to change the delivery format and then it wouldn't let him save his changes because it was expecting the user ID value in the TO: field and he did not have rights to save to a different e-mail address. As it stands now personal subscriptions are worthless unless there is a way for them to be able to modify the TO: address or have it default to their e-mail address instead of their user ID.

  • I agree, this has been troublesome, as some users do not understand the need to have a fully qualified email address in the .to field.

If this is greyed our, then you need to investigate the line in your rsconfig.config file:

    <SendEmailToUserAlias>True</SendEmailToUserAlias>
