Practical Business Intelligence with SQL Server 2005 (Microsoft Windows Server System Series) (Paperback)

by John C. Hancock (Author), Roger Toren (Author) pb date 2006

    the reviews look interesting

  • I've found The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit from the Kimball Group to be a good resource for anyone using Analysis Services along with the other SQL Server 2005 tools (e.g. SSIS) to create a Data Warehouse. It has a lot more practical advice than you normally find in technical books. Definitely worth checking out.

By watching all the MSDN webcasts about SSAS and reading this book, I got up and running with data warehousing and OLAP pretty quickly.

Of course, it all depends on what your needs are. If you need more details on the technical bells and whistles, other books will provide that. I picked up Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (SAMS) by Melomed, which has a lot more detail about the product but could leave you overwhelmed if you are just trying to get started.
