I was hoping someone might be able to help, or has at least seen the same problem. We have a named instance on SQL 2005 and are trying to connect to a linked server(SQL 2000) and keep getting errors like connection forcibly closed by remote host.
We have set the port that the instance is using to a specific port number, but it seems like the 2000 server just doesn't want to talk to the 2005 named instance. We have other 2005 servers with default instance that don't have problems connecting. I was just curious if others have found the same problem.
