Sql 2008 pricing remains the same as 2005 - can CALS be transferred?

    Having read this article, my first thought is whether one can transfer Sql 2005 CALS to 2008. Does anyone know if this is possible?

    I'm pretty sure it's not, but the way to find out for sure is contact Microsoft about it.

    From what I've read, you will have to purchase NEW 2008 CALS, be they device or user specific. You can "transfer" the 2005 CALS to another 2005 server, but not to a 2008 server.
