Recovering overwritten data

  • Hello

We're using the new Team Foundation Server source control for our project (we migrated over to it about 3 months ago) and since it uses SQL server 2005 to maintain the source databases, I thought I might post here about this problem.  They just put out  the release candidate for Team Foundation Server and we tried to upgrade to that last night.  What we didn't realize was that we had no backups, and hence we overwrote the original databases with this newly created set of empty databases.

My question is, is there any way to recover this data?  I don't know of one, but hope springs eternal, as they say, and hence my post.

We looked at the logs of the upgrade tool, and it turns out that it deletes the entire user project root directory before installing the new product.  In a general case, is there any way to recover a dropped database without restoring a backup?

    Thanks!

  • if you have no log files to work with, you could probably charge this to experience, otherwise verify if you have full recovery set for the database and then you can use a log reader
