I am creating a backup plan for a 24*7 database. Db is critical and the acceptable loss is 15 minutes.
I am taking a full backup every day, differentials every 4 hours and Transaction logs every 15 minutes.
Couple of dumb questions:

Hi Chris,
Do I need to take the differentials for the system databases too (if so, since we can’t take a diff on Master, do I need to take fulls on master every 4 hours)
yes, you need to take a full backup daily. if you happen to create new logins or create new databases or any server configurations etc, it is better to take the full backup of the Master database after the necessary operations.
If I take a transaction log backup after the differential backup, will the transaction log be from the last differential or the last full backup?
the transaction log backup will be after the last differential backup.
hope you are clear now.
Thanks and have a nice day!!!

Do not forget the msdbdatabase. It contains lots of 'stuff' ... Jobs, Schedules, DTS package information ... Just having master and no msdb backup can really ruin your day (unless you have absolutely everything scripted on another server).
