Access 2003 Developer Extensions

  • Has support for this product evaporated?

I own a personal copy of the Access 2003 Developer Extensions CD that I received from attending one of the MS launch events a few years back.

At a new job, we need to install the ADE to create a runtime version of Access but I haven't found the product available anywhere. The MS web pages state that you can download the software if you have VS.NET 2005 Professional Edition or VSTO and we have both; the install appears to be successful but nothing appears on either the start menu or in program files.

I've Google'd about & found many dead MS links to "content not found".

Any ideas how to get this product without purchasing a complete msdn license?

    TIA,

    Bill Mitchell

  • I think it is only available through MSDN now. I recently signed up to MSDN and found the Access dev extensions on disc 3089.1, dated March 2006.

  • I don't know if this will help, but here goes.

I too have been trying to chase the Access 2003 Developer Extensions but don't want to pay $450 to $600 for VSTO 2005. It is my understanding from some other developers that the 2003 RT is in this package. In lieu of I am trying this approach.

    Access 2003 RT work-around:

First, I saved my Access application in Access 2000 format.

Second, I downloaded the Access Runtime 2000 minimum engine from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243957

Third, I installed the runtime engine on my user’s computers that did not have Access installed.

Forth, I copied my application to the user’s desktop.

I used this work around on a rather complex Aceess 2003 db for test purposes about 1 month ago. Up to this point I haven't noticed any issues.
