Issue with performance monitor - physical disk/% disk time

  • We upgraded from SQL7 to SQL2000 about 3 months ago and I am a little perplexed about something.  On SQL 7 I used to run Performance Monitor fairly often (maybe once a week) and I would capture information about our database, particularly physical disk/%disk time counter.  When on SQL 7 I would get proper numbers that were in the proper range like 0 - 100%.  Now with SQL2000 I am getting numbers like 8000, 10000, 6000 for this same counter.  I assume that there is probably a factor of 100 in those numbers but why is this? This has only happened since I moved to SQL2000. The Processor/%Processor Time values ARE in the proper range.  We are on Service Pack 3A. Any help on this?

  • Are you getting these results when you monitor the physical disk/%disk time counter on its own?

  • Actually when I monitor it on the server it shows a scale of 1 and it is in the proper range. This is just opening up Performance Monitor and it is one of the default counters.
