SP1 and 2 for SQL Server 2005 Express?

  • I’ve noticed on this site the vote for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3. I don’t know if I even have SP1 installed. By looking at the following info, can anyone tell me what I have and should I install SP 1 and 2?

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express9.00.3042.00

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)2000.085.1022.00 ((Webdata).030220-1508)

    Microsoft MSXML3.0 5.0 6.0

    Microsoft Internet Explorer6.0.2800.1106

    Microsoft .NET Framework2.0.50727.42

    Operating System5.0.2195 (W2K Pro)

    Thanks.

  • What is the build number on your SQL Server install? Not Management Studio, but SQL Server.

    Run select @@version to check.

    Build numbers are here: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/Administration/2960/

You don't need to install SP1 if you install SP2. They are cumulative. There are a lot of fixes, but SP2 had some issues and there are actually a number of Cumulative Updates (6) to date that go on top of SP2.
