Read Only Database

  Hi All,

  I've created a database from a backup and it's now read only. The actual file on disk is not read only. I've tried to use Management Studio Express in the Properties/Options dialog to change the database to writeable and get a message that it's unable to open the database file because of an operating system error 4, Access denied. I'm logged onto the OS as an administrator and am connected to the database as sa.

  How can I make this database writeable?

  how did you restore the database? maybe you have used NORECOVERY or STANDBY modifier?

  If you stop SQL Server, can you get to the file?

  It might be that the Service Account for SQL Server does not have permissions to the file on disk.
