SQL2005 cluster installation

  • Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for my question. If not, please guide me to the right one.

I'm about to install a SQL 2005 cluster with 4 nodes on 2 different sites (2 nodes on each site). The win2003 cluster and disks are ready so the "only" thing that is remaining is the sql installation. The question I have, since I've never installed a sql cluster before, is how much time should I calculate to spend on this at the minimum? Is 2 days too optimistic even if everything goes smoothly?

What is the most tricky part?

As one site will be a mirror of the other, how would you do such an installation? First the first site ant then the other?

Do you know of a good resource to read about sql cluster installations? A guide or something?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

By the way, thanks a lot for your tremendous help to my last post about roles and permissions. It helped.

  • My business partner, Brian Knight, can build a cluster in an hour. I'd expect you can install SQL Server in a cluster easily in under a day. Maybe a day for both sites.

It's much easier than in the past, but be sure you read up on clustering to understand what you want to do. How you want to set up failover, quorum disks, etc.

  • Thanks Steve,

    The links were helpful.

The sql cluster installation was successful. I had some issues with Service Pack 2 on one instance. But finally it went through. So I'm pretty satisfied.

    Thanks again for your help
