what is an index group?

  • im learning about dynamic views and functions. what is an index group as this is mentioned regularly, although no explination as to what it is is given.

  • What's the context that the "index group" is mentioned? The only thing I can find referencing is in the dynamic management views for looking at missing indexes. According to Kalen Delaney, there's only one index per group. In fact, the group concept seems to be something they're planning to use in the future.

  • Sorry, I should have mentioned that it was in relation to the DMV's. I couldnt find any description of what an Index group was, but as you say, thats because it currently does nothing. Thanks for the info. it is exactly what i wanted.
