As I indicated in my previous post, Visual Studio Team System for Database Professionals CTP 5 Out,
if you don't already have a default SQL Server Express instance
installed, the installer will install one for you. There's not an
option to not install it. I did attempt to patch it to SP1 but received
an error that I didn't pursue any further because I really wanted to
remove it altogether. So that's what I did.
In Add/Remove Programs Microsoft SQL Server 2005 should be listed as an installed program. You can click on it and select the Change
button to get a list of instances and pieces which are installed. From
there you can uninstall the SQL Server Express package. But we're not
quite done yet.
You'll also want to repoint your design-time validation database connection. In Visual Studio 2005, under Tools | Options, there is a section labeled Database Tools. If you expand it, you have Design-time Validation Database.
Point it to where you want your database to be located. You'll need to
stop and restart Visual Studio for this change to take effect.
