backup files not deleting through maintenance plan

  • Issue is related to maintenance plan on 2005. Backups of 5 user databases are taken at below location using maintenance plan

    T:\SQLBACK

A maintenance plan clean up task is also added that deletes the .BAK files older than 3 days. But here, when I check I see that the .BAK files are not getting deleted. Have you encoutered this problem before.

    Please advise on the same.

    Thanks.

  • There was a issue with sql 2005 but its being corrected in the subsequent service pack release.... dont remember which service pack though.

Which version are u using and what is the backup file extension that you have given. File extension should be ".bak", it should include the dot "." .

check out the ms site for more details.

  • Hi

Have you set the folder correctly? Are there backup files older than 3 days in your backup folder?

seems i was wrong about the extension name for the file.

  • Upgrade to version 9.00.3175. The problem is fixed in that version.

  • SP2 had an issue and there were updates postSP2 that corrected issues with this task.

  • 1. Make sure you are on sp2. I see no reason not to upgrade at this point.

    2. For the file extension, use "bak" instead of ".bak". I've run into this issue before and as soon as removed the DOT, everything worked fine.

    Good luck!
