MOVING FROM SQL 7.0 -> SQL 2000

  • What pitfalls should I look from in moving from SQL 7.0 to SQL 2000, from a development perspective.

    Things such as:

    • datatypes are invalidated or redefined.
    • Programming structures changed (loops, IFs, etc...)
    • other.

    Thanks.

  • As far as I know the only gotchas potentially will be orphaned users (see BOL for sp_change_users_login AUTO_FIX).  Code will remain the same.

  • Thanks for the reply.

    Thought I'd post what my research turned up.

    What I reported to the development team asking this is that there are no major pitfalls or issues to worry about. Everything is backward compatible.

    The only two issues they can keep an eye out for are:

    Re-install the most recent version of MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components)

    A replication setup between 7.0 and 2000 may (and probably will) fail. Look into this if you have replication setup.

    That's the extent of it. So skip your research if someone asks you this question, and convey the above.

    Cheers,
