ODBC Connection does not accept 'local'

    Whilst creating an ODBC connection using SQL Server Native Client it was noted that \\Servername\SQLInstance was accepted whilst (local) was not accepted.

    OS: Win2k3R2

    Any idea why?

    Try localhost.

    I get errors related to the Named Pipes Provider using both (local) -which is listed in the ODBC wizard - and (localhost).

    Error02.jpg using (localhost)

    Within SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Native Client Configuration > Client Protocols, Named Pipes is Enabled with Priority 3.

    Unsuccessful.
