I am looking into benchmarking/load testing tools for a sql 2005 database. What are some of the tools people use? Can you recommend one of the common tools? I would like to extrapolate the load of 10 users (using a web application - connected to sql) to 100 or 1000, so for example I could record 10 users doing some testing and the tool would record the load and multiply it by a factor I specify. Any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

There are two that I've been able to work with well. Idera's SQLScaler and Quest's Benchmark Factory. Either one should be able to do what you need. Although I honestly prefer Idera as a company, I think that Benchmark Factory is the more sophisticated & flexible tool, but only by a bit. SQLScaler on the other hand has much, much, much better reporting and data collection. Benchmark factory barely supplies enough information and we usually have to collect Profiler & Perfmon stats to generate our final reports.

Thanks Grant - BenchMark Factory was something I came across previously - unless someone has something else to offer this is the one I'll recommend.
