Benchmarking/Load Testing Tools

  • I am looking into benchmarking/load testing tools for a sql 2005 database. What are some of the tools people use? Can you recommend one of the common tools? I would like to extrapolate the load of 10 users (using a web application - connected to sql) to 100 or 1000, so for example I could record 10 users doing some testing and the tool would record the load and multiply it by a factor I specify. Any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • There are two that I've been able to work with well. Idera's SQLScaler and Quest's Benchmark Factory. Either one should be able to do what you need. Although I honestly prefer Idera as a company, I think that Benchmark Factory is the more sophisticated & flexible tool, but only by a bit. SQLScaler on the other hand has much, much, much better reporting and data collection. Benchmark factory barely supplies enough information and we usually have to collect Profiler & Perfmon stats to generate our final reports.

  • Thanks Grant - BenchMark Factory was something I came across previously - unless someone has something else to offer this is the one I'll recommend.
