On http://msdn2.mircosoft.com/en-us/library/ms161561.aspx I read that I should change my deployment from http://localhost/reportserver to: http://localhost/reportserver$SQLExpress. When I did, I now get a Report Services Login asking for a username and password. I entered my local computer username and password, which did not work. Now what? Where do I find what username and password it is looking for.
I'm using:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio

Try a domain user account/password instead of a local one.
Also, see the help topic "Configuring Authentication in Reporting Services".

Here's a real newbie question.
Do I need Visual Web Developer to make my system work. Remember, all I want is to allow other computers on the intranet to see the report being generated by BIDS.

I guess that depends on what you want to use it for...
You don't need it to be able to create and publish reports on a server, as long as you're happy with how these reports are displayed. If you want to customise the default display of reports within the browser, then you could use it.

I've re-installed SQL Server Express and BIDS, and now when I try to deploy a report, it insists on a password. I enter my local PC username and password, and it doesn't like it. Isn't there any easy way to remove the request for password? I have selected Windows authentication on every screen I know about. I looked at IIS (V5.1) for some clues, but didn't find any clues and I looked at .NET Framework v2.0, no help there either. I've been messing with this little project for 2 weeks now, and still have not deployed a report that anyone else can see. I'm sure it's not that difficult, but I haven't found the golden key yet. Here's the software I'm using:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express Version 9:00.3042.00
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600)
Microsoft Server Reporting Services Designers Version 9.00.3042.00
We want everone on the domain to be able to see this report - no limitations.

Did you run through the "Reporting Services Configuration" utility? If so - did you change to anything other than the default options?

Did you somehow kick yourself out of the "publisher" role? The account creating the reports would need publisher or Content manager access in order to publish/deploy to the server.
