SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition does not install on windows xp sp2

  • I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 developers edition on a laptop that has windows xp, but it is failing everytime. MSXML6, SQL DB services, Analysis Services, Intergration Services all donot install and then it comes up with an error report which does not explain much. I have done everything from reinstalling xp and installing sql first before any other .net or microsoft product but it still fails with the same result. Has anyone else had this happen to them before? Does anyone have any suggestion? Thank you for your time...

  • What are the specific errors appearing in the logs?

    Scott Duncan

    MARCUS. Why dost thou laugh? It fits not with this hour.
    TITUS. Why, I have not another tear to shed;

  • OK. Found the solution. First remove all sql 2005 utilities that may have been intalled on your computer. Then use the Windows Installer Utility cleaner to remove all MSXML 6.0 components. You can get the installer from the link below.

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml

    The cleaner utility will remove all registry entries of the MSXML 6.0.

    Once removed run the sql 2005 setup again and it should work.....:)
