Has anyone seen whether there will be a free express version of SQL Server 2008 ? I learnt quite a bit from playing with 2005 express.
Thanks

My understanding is there will almost certainly be some form of 'free' SQL Server 2008. In the meantime, you can download the SQL Server 2008 CTP, which is the Developer Edition. It is unlikely that other versions will be publicly available until nearer the RTM date.
See https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/content/content.aspx?ContentID=5470 to get the CTP. Registration is necessary.

There will definitely be a SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.
will it be 64bit and will it be able to be deployed on a production (fairly low traffic) windows server 2008 web edition x64 server??

Now that SQL Server 2008 non free versions have RTMed, does anyone know when SQL Server 2008 Express Edition will be released? Thanks!

Thanks. After I posted, I saw Microsoft's press release stating that the Express edition will be released today sometime. I wanted to make sure that the Express edition wasn't going to be released multiple months after the paid versions (I believe this happened with 2005- or at least it took a while before the Management Studio Express 2005 was released.) Hopefully Management Studio 2008 Express will also be released today!
I noticed that on the 2008 August Feature Pack
that there's a seperate download from sqlcmd. Is sqlcmd no longer in the regular packages (even for Express), or does this download provide more functionality for sqlcmd than what's built in by default?
I deploy SQL Server 2005 Express with my applications and for some functionality, I use sqlcmd to attach and detach databases (especially from my install kit.)
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know. Perhaps wait and see when Express is released what it says.

Thanks.
I found this page- looks like one version will be released on the 11th and the other on the 25th. It doesn't say anything about when SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express will be released- I'm hoping for the 11th.
