Reporting Service - WebService Identity

  • HI Experts,

I have configured the Webservice Idenity of Reporting Serivice to run under the same account which the Reporting Service Account (windows service Identity). And the account is a Domain account

The reporting service is not wokring if I remove this domain account from the 'Allow Log on Locally" privilege.

Can somebody tell me is that privillege is really required?

In my environment that privilege will not be granted becuase of the security policy.

  • Supposedly for RS2K5 only log on as a service is required (see here -> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Review_NT_rights)

RS2K apparently did/does require the Log On Locally (see here -> http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2000/deploy/rsdepgd.mspx#ETHAE )

    Steve.

  • Thanks Steve.

The document talks about the Window service account details.

Here we have changed the Web service identiry to run under a domain account which is same as the windows service account. I mean the Application pool for ReportManager and ReportServer runs under this domain account.(ie, the ASPNET account is changed from the default NETWORK SERVICE  to the above specified Domain account).

Now does this really required the log on locally privillege? it is failing without that...

  • Sorry, obviously skim read the earlier post :S

On this domain account (that's to run the App Pool) have you added it to the IIS_WPG (windows) group on the IIS Server?

    Steve.

  • Hi Steve,

Yes it is added to the group IIS_WPG (windows) group on the IIS Server. I have made the changed via Reporting Service Configuration tool.
