Reporting Services Configuration

I'm trying to set up RS for the first time using the RS Configuration tool. It looks like I have a couple of items that don't want to configure correctly:
Web Service Identity: won't allow me to enter information although it's still showing up as "not configured."
Database Setup: This step appeared to work fine although it's still showing up as not configured. The databases were created as planned, but when I hit apply, I get the message that it can't continue because the report server virtual directory hasn't been created. That, however, is showing up as configured 4 steps before.
So, any ideas what might be up here?

Yes it is. But, looks like it is because I'm on Win2000 server and IIS 5 that it shows up as not configured but apparently automatically uses the default ASP.Net account, assuming I'm reading things correctly.
So, since I can't do it through this tool is there something I need to specify somewhere for the webservicesaccount since I'm getting that warning in the log? Or, can it figure things out on its own?
Also, when I try to connect to RS through management studio, I get a long error printout saying "Client found response content type of 'text/html'; charset=utf-8', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with the error message: (followed by a bunch of html code with no specific errors?)

Sorry for the delay in responding. Hopefully you have an answer by now. I suspect that you need to properly configure your IIS 5.0 to get it to work - nothing seems to ever "figure things out on" their own
It has been a while since I installed RS, and I don't think I ever have on 2000 (or IIS5); but I do remember that there were issues about its' configuration, particularly the virtual directory. I found the answers I needed on MSDN about three months after I manually solved the problem. There are two configuration files (.config) that get tweaked for various setups... and there was one place where the two default lines in the (out of the box) configuration file were "mutually exclusive" (i.e., they could not exist in the file at the same time - yet there were both there by default).
I wrote an article on this site about installing SSL certificates... not sure if under this login/email or another one... but there is a link in it to the MSDN site where this is discussed. While we're not talking SSL certificates, the MS article should prove good for you.

I also Got the same error while doing the configuration settig for SSRS virtual Directory.
I can acess the report manager with http://localhost/reports but If I try the server name insted of Localhost I am getting the Error
Server Error in '/' Application.

Might be some problem in Virtual Directory settings. I am not tooo much aware of the Configuration related stuffs but I have tried lots of things but Not yet Suceed.
Any help is Most appriciated ....
