I am upgrading a SQL 2000 standard database server to SQL 2005 standard on a windows 2003 server
I am logged in as domain admin and started the upgrade as 'sa'
Half way through at the 'updating system resource database' I am getting:
"SQL Server Setup requires write permissions to the resource database so that it can be overwritten. The C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\Master\mssqlsystemresource1.ldf file does not exist, or the account running SQL Server Setup does not have administrator permissions to overwrite the resource database. To continue, verify that the file exists, and run SQL Server Setup from an administrator account."
The file in question does not exist making me think the software has a problem creating it but "everyone" has full control on the folders.
Can anyone help?
Cheers

Is your domain admin is member of local admin group? Under what account SQL server 2000 services were running? Does this domain account granted sql login in 2000.
Try to upgrade using local admin account as long as you have not removed builtin/Admin group...
You don't need to be domain to update stand alone server.
What is the status of your sql server at this time after this failure...
In place upgrades are painful, if they fail in the middle of upgrade process.
