How to move DTS schedule without copying msdb?

  • Hey All,

I need to move data warehouse from one server (HP ML570 dual processor, 2 GB RAM with DAS, SQL server 2000 SP3, NT4 domain) to new server (HP ML570 Quad processor, 4 GB RAM with SAN, SQL server 2000 SP4, AD Domain). I am going to use the backup restore option to move the database. I am sure I can move the logins as well. Because of the obvious configuration differences, I am not copying the msdb and master databases from the old server to the new server.

All these databases have a lot of ETLs/DTSs on them. I have read articles on microsoft and a few others as well about moving DTS jobs, but none of them actually talk about their schedules.

can I copy/move the DTSs without having to save each of them as a vbscript, and then reopening them on the target server. and What about their schedule? How can I copy that?

    Your help is highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    TK

  • No good way to move DTS packages. You could probably script something to open and save on the new server, but might be as quick to just open and "save as" and target the new server.

For the schedules, script them out and load on the new server.

  • Try DTSBackup 2000 from http://www.sqldts.com/default.aspx?204 to transfer DTS packages.  I've used it and it works great.

As for the schedules, when you schedule a package a job is created.  Just script out the jobs and execute the script on the new server.
