Hello all,
We have merge replication set up with 4 subscribers, using anonymous subscriptions. Every now & then, at the publisher, we see the dreaded red X in Replication Monitor for a subscriber, which means we have to call that office and ask them to either r-click on their subscription & re-initialize or reboot their machine.
We noticed that, at the publisher in Replication Monitor, if we r-click on the subscriber in question, one of the options is to start synchronizing. Good! That's just what we wanna do! Then it asks for a username & password. We have tried everything (we know all the users/pwds for our subscribing offices), and it always rejects whatever we put in. Can someone tell us what login/pwd it is asking for? Is this a Windows login? A SQL login? Do we have to set up something on the subscriber to make this work?
Thanks in advance...

When the Publication was created there was a step called "Snapshot Agent Security". On this step there two things that deal with accounts.
First: Run under the following windows account. OR Run under the SQL Server Agent Service Account.
Second: "Connect to the publisher"
By Impersonating the process account. OR Using the following SQL server Login.
Depending on the choices made here. This is the account credentials that you’re looking for.

Maybe your subscriptions are expiring. You can change that in the publication by selecting "Subscriptions never expire"
