According to Microsoft, there is a 30% discount until April 30th. (http://www.measureup.com/Site/display_article.aspx?id=1351) Has anyone ever used them? How do they "measure up" against Transcender?

I would not recommend ExamForce Cram Master either. Like MeasureUp they are not worth the money. As I was taking studying I have found errors and send email to them to correct. Transcender is far better than any other and well worth the money.

Haven't used either in years and I just finished the 431, 441, 443, 444 series.
Taking a test is a skill and for the 441/443 exams, there are case studies you need to read and then use the info to answer questions. So it's not only understanding the product's features, but also interperting business and technical requirements. Honestly if you have a medium level of understanding of ss2k5, then you can get the info out of the case study.
For 431, the first one, you need SSMS skills. 1/2 the test is questions and 1/2 is a task to be solved in SSMS and you get a simulated SSMS environment that you need to click through and add/delete something. Like add a user, or delete a linked server or something like that (not actual questions I saw). 431 was pretty hard and covered lots of stuff (repl, service broker, perf, mirroring, security, etc). By far the hardest of the 4, but also the one I'd studied for the least. I took it last though.

I thank you for your thoughts on that one. I was going to take 431 first and the 447 (the upgrade). I've been working with SSMS for the past 6+ months at work in a Dev & Production environment, but we haven't used Mirroring, Service Broker, Notification Services or Replication, so I now know what I have to concetrate on for studying. @=)
I think I'll still take 431 first. Afterall, if I can pass the hard one on the first try, the others should be a relative breeze, right?

They might be. You definitely should be aware of how to handle situations in SSMS. Not everything is clickable, so that will help you eliminate some steps, but you want to be sure you understand how to take a backup, the options and where they are, how to restore, add/edit dialogs, etc.
I'd also check into exam insurance. I used it for the 431 exam and paid $170 for it. I didn't need the 2nd chance, so I get 25% off the next exam. That will be like $30, so I ended up paying $15 for the insurance, but it might come out on top.

Steve, thanks for the tips about SQL 2005 exams. I have done the same about exam insurance since I failed the 70-228 before with 677 score. Well I took it again yesterday and pass with 865. I used Transcender to prepare for the exam. I will start to prepare for 70-229 next to get them out of the way. I have started late but I am just a jr dba who is trying to learn more.

I did not know you were preparing for 2000 I would have helped, here is a link to help you know the material covered for 70-229 study the material and take the Transcender when you start scoring above 800 you are ready to take the test.
