Cube data location

  • Good day,

I have been looking and looking on line for some information that would tell me where SSAS stores the cubes.  I have now actually found the cubes that we are working on, on our server; however, this location is not the desired location.  I need to know how we can save and store these cubes in a non-default location.  I am a DBA, not a developer, and our developer says that this is not something he sets while creating the cube.  Is this something that is set up at install?  Is it configurable?  can we modify this?

ALL help will be greatly appreciated!

  • Good day too,

I'm also interested to that post!

  • I am not sure if this will help you but,

if you are working with Analysis Manager then try this:

    1. Right click the database inside wich you have created the cube.

2.Select 'Archive Database' and set the directory you wish to save the entire database.

3.Your cubes should be saved there as well.

I haven't tried this out, but I think it should work. I don't think there is a way to save a cube apart from the database it belongs to.

  • My previous answer is for archiving a database, so it is not what you are looking for.

I think that all the Data in the Analysis Manager must be kept in a single folder and that is why you cannot save a cube seperately.

However, I think you can change this folder by right clicking on the server's name (in the left pane of the analysis Manager) and then select 'Properties'.

In the General tab you will find the directory in which the Data folder is and change it if you wish.

P.S. By default the directory of this folder is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\Data

  • I found the answer. Start SSMS, server type Analysis Services. right click on the SERVER, then click Properties. Modify the DATADIR property to the location you want ALL cubes to be, and apply. This will require a restart of SSAS.

    Hope this helps!
