When i create a linked server to an Oracle server in 2005, I see it in Enterprise Manager and can use EM to browse the databases and tables the same as I can for a DB I created in SQL Server. I can't figure out how to get this view in 2005. Am I missing something or is this not possible?

I am not sure what you mean but to see SQL Server 2005 databases and objects you need the OLTP Management Studio, if you need to see both Oracle and SQL Server in one place you need Embarcadero DB Artisan. Hope this helps.

Yes, I have Managment Studio, but I can't see the Oracle objects there. What is Embarcadero DB Artisan? Is that software I have to buy?

Embarcadero is a tool that cost more than $5,000 but you can browse the objects of all RDBMS(relational database management systems) in your network and you can also use it to script objects of all databases you are monitoring with it.

Yikes. I'm just trying to do the same thing I could do in 2000 for free! So, do you know that it is not possible to do this in 2005 the way you could in 2000? Or, should I keep looking.

When I was using 2000 I had Oracle 9i which did not come with Enterprise Manager so Embarcadero was needed before 10g, you could ask for it most big companies pay for either Toad or Embarcadero. I don't know any free tool that can do it.

Yet another useful feature that Microsoft removed. I haven't found a way around this either.

I just found this on the MSDN forums:
"The functionality to view remote tables/views for linked servers is not available in SQL2005 Management Studio. You can use the system stored procedure 'sp_tables_ex' with linked server name to retrieve remote tables/views information".
